Stop Waiting to Become Yourself. Design Who You’re Becoming

At a large business event, a living legend of the coaching world shared a message that cut straight through the noise: if you do nothing different, nothing will change.

The speaker was Jim Francis, a renowned business coach and public speaker known for his no-nonsense approach to personal responsibility and action.


His message was simple, but powerful:


Don’t find yourself … design yourself.


Too many people wait for clarity, confidence, or the “right moment” before taking action. But clarity doesn’t come first… movement does. If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got.



The Cost of Doing Nothing


One of the most uncomfortable truths Jim shared was this:

inaction is still a choice, and it comes with consequences.


Doing nothing feels safe, but it quietly reinforces the same patterns, the same frustrations, and the same results. You may want change, but wanting alone doesn’t move the needle. Change demands something different, a different thought, a different habit, a different response.


This is where many people get stuck should-ing all over their lives:


  • I should exercise.

  • I should change jobs.

  • I should feel more confident.


But “should” rarely leads to action, it usually leads to guilt.



Fear Isn’t the Problem — It’s the Signal


Another shared truth resonates deeply with the Serenity Reset philosophy:


Fear is something to be relished, that’s when you know something is about to change.


Fear doesn’t mean stop.

Fear means you’re standing at the edge of growth.

This mirrors Jim’s own journey. He didn’t emerge fully formed. He was coached himself, including by Tony Robbins, and later went on to coach influential figures such as Brian Tracy. Growth didn’t happen in isolation; it happened through support, reflection, and action.

  • You take responsibility for your inner world

  • You make small but meaningful changes

  • You receive guidance and support while rebuilding trust in yourself.

You can’t progress without change, and you can’t change without doing something differently.
