The Family Behind Serenity Muay Thai and Yoga

One of the loveliest things about Serenity Muay Thai and Yoga is that it really is a family space — in every sense of the word.

Behind the classes, the pads, the yoga mats, the breathwork, the bolsters, the gloves, the occasional child wandering in looking for a snack, and the endless juggling of family life, is our little team working together to create a studio where everyone feels welcome.

I absolutely love working alongside my husband, Ekachy, at Serenity. He brings so much experience, skill and patience to his Muay Thai teaching, and I get to bring in the yoga, breathwork, nervous system work and recovery side of things.

Basically, he teaches people how to kick beautifully, move skilfully and stay sharp.

And I try to make sure their hips, backs, knees, nervous systems and breathing patterns forgive them afterwards.

A true marriage of talents.

Ekachy is an incredibly skilled Muay Thai teacher. He has years of experience, a deep understanding of technique, and the kind of calm patience that makes people feel safe, supported and able to learn at their own pace.

He still fights at interclub events, although since we had our child, his televised fighting days are behind him. These days, the biggest fight is usually trying to leave the house on time with a child, snacks, water bottles, gloves, shin pads, homework, and someone asking where their shoes are.

But that experience is still there in everything he teaches.

His classes are not just about throwing punches and kicks. They are about skill, timing, focus, discipline, confidence, movement, fitness and keeping the mind active and alert. Muay Thai is brilliant for anyone who wants to get fitter but also needs their brain to stay entertained. No staring sadly at a treadmill wondering how three minutes can last seventeen years.

In a Muay Thai class, your body is working, your brain is switched on, and you are constantly learning. You are improving coordination, strength, stamina, balance, reaction time and confidence — while also having far more fun than you expected.

And then there is my side of the studio.

I often support clients with yoga-based rehab and injury prevention work, helping the body move better, recover better and hopefully reduce the chances of injuries creeping in. Mobility, strength, breath, recovery and nervous system regulation all matter — especially if you are training hard, learning new skills, or returning after injury.

Breathwork can also be incredibly useful for Muay Thai. When used safely and appropriately, it can help support focus, recovery, breath control and anaerobic performance. In other words, it may help you stay calmer and more efficient when your body is working hard and your brain is trying not to panic because someone has just asked you to do another round.

Together, the yoga and Muay Thai sides of Serenity complement each other beautifully.

Strength and softness.Power and recovery.Discipline and play.Technique and breath.Focus and family chaos in the background.

And that family element really matters to us.

We know how hard it can be to fit fitness, wellbeing and hobbies around family life. That is why we have created a genuinely family-friendly studio. Children are welcome, and we have a play room, a small soft play area, a little library for younger children, and our “Tree House” quiet area where children can hide away with a book, laptop or tablet.

There are also spaces where older children can do homework, study or simply wait while their parent trains — if they are not joining in themselves.

Because sometimes the difference between someone getting to a class or not is whether their child has somewhere safe and happy to be.

At Serenity, we want people to feel that they can come as they are. With children. Without children. Nervous. Experienced. Complete beginner. Returning to fitness. Wanting confidence. Wanting skill. Wanting something more interesting than the gym. Wanting time for themselves.

Everyone is welcome.

So if you would like to benefit from Ekachy’s experience, skilful teaching and boundless patience, why not come along to a Muay Thai lesson?

Classes run:

Tuesdays at 7:15pmSaturdays at 11am

Come for the fitness.Come for the skill.Come for the confidence.Come because your brain is bored of ordinary exercise.Come because you want to learn something brilliant from someone who really knows his craft.

And if your children need to come too, bring them along.

We built Serenity Muay Thai and Yoga to be more than just a studio.

We built it to be a place where families, beginners, fighters, yogis, tired parents, nervous newcomers, and people who simply want to move, breathe and feel better can all belong.
