The Story of Serenity

Tucked away in the market town of Knighton, Powys, where the winding streets meet the wild beauty of the Welsh borders and the ancient path of Offa’s Dyke passes through, you’ll find Serenity—a space designed to nourish body, mind and spirit.

Serenity was created by Serena, whose journey to founding the studio has been anything but ordinary.

With a background spanning law, international teaching, and theatre, Serena spent two decades as a primary school teacher before answering a deeper call toward healing and connection. Her travels took her across the globe—from teaching English in rural Costa Rica and the streets of Old Delhi to volunteering at a neohumanist orphanage in Thailand. It was there, surrounded by children who began each day with yoga, chanting, and meditation, that Serena discovered yoga not just as movement, but as a way of life.

From that seed grew a vocation rooted in compassion, curiosity, and breath. Today, Serena is a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT500) and certified breathwork practitioner, with extensive training in Yin Yoga, Chinese Medicine, Functional Anatomy, Mindfulness and Neuroplasticity, Chair Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Pre and Postnatal Yoga, and Aerial Yoga. Her teaching is informed, inclusive, and grounded in both ancient wisdom and modern science.

Her partner in life and practice, Ekachy—affectionately known as Eky—brings a very different, but beautifully complementary, energy to Serenity.

Born and raised in Thailand, Eky is a lifelong practitioner of Muay Thai, Thailand’s traditional martial art. He has fought in televised competitions and brings deep skill, discipline, and warmth to his coaching. When he’s not teaching Muay Thai at the studio, Eky teaches GCSE Business Studies at the local high school.

Together, Serena and Eky have created Serenity as a sanctuary of both stillness and strength—where yoga meets breath, and movement meets mindfulness. A place where the peaceful rhythm of rural Wales meets global experience and lifelong learning.

They live locally with their young son and are actively involved in every part of the space—from teaching to curating the wellness shop, to simply sitting down for a cup of tea with visitors.

Serenity is more than a studio.
It’s a growing community of open hearts, curious minds, and kind souls. Whether you're walking Offa’s Dyke, living nearby, or simply passing through—step inside and take a breath. You are always welcome here.
