Transformation Starts in the Kitchen

This week I had the pleasure of travelling to Cheltenham to hear the brilliant Lee McQueen speak about transformation, high performance and building habits that last.

Although many people know Lee for his incredible achievements in business, what struck me most was how much emphasis he placed on looking after the body as well as the mind.

He spoke about the importance of nutrition as the foundation of performance—planning your meals, keeping your protein intake consistent, and making sure your supplements are “locked in” as part of your daily routine. His message was clear: success isn’t built on occasional bursts of motivation, but on the small habits you repeat every day.

One comment he made really made me smile.

Looking at his impressive physique, he said:

“These abs weren’t made in the gym… they were made in the kitchen.”

It’s such a simple sentence, but it carries an important truth.

We often think our health is created by the hour we spend exercising each day. In reality, it’s shaped by the other 23 hours too. What we eat, how we sleep, how we manage stress and how consistently we care for ourselves all play an enormous role in our wellbeing.

As I listened, I found myself thinking about my own book, The Serenity Kitchen – Nourishing the Nervous System.

While my focus is on supporting the nervous system rather than building six-pack abs, the principle is exactly the same.

The kitchen is where transformation begins.

Every nourishing meal is an opportunity to reduce inflammation, stabilise energy, support recovery and give your brain and nervous system the nutrients they need to function at their best.

When I was recovering from fibromyalgia and burnout, I discovered that healing wasn’t about finding one miracle cure. It was about making hundreds of small decisions that, over time, completely changed how my body felt.

That’s why I wrote The Serenity Kitchen. It’s packed with delicious plant-based recipes and practical nutritional guidance designed to nourish your body, support your nervous system and make healthy eating enjoyable rather than overwhelming.

One of the highlights of the day was meeting Lee and having the opportunity to give him a copy of The Serenity Kitchen. The photo of us together, with Lee holding my book, is one I’ll treasure. It was lovely to meet someone whose message about discipline, consistency and nutrition aligns so closely with my own belief that lasting change comes from simple daily habits.

Whether your goal is greater energy, improved health, better performance or recovery from burnout, transformation doesn’t happen by accident.

It happens one choice at a time.

One meal.

One habit.

One day.

If you’d like to begin nourishing your own nervous system, I’d love you to read The Serenity Kitchen – Nourishing the Nervous System.

Transformation starts in the kitchen. 🌿
